Laura's Shower

This has been a good Memorial Day weekend. Laura and John were here for their bridal shower. About 15 minutes before it was time to leave for the shower, Laura was looking everywhere for something to wear. She left the dress she'd planned to wear at home. I had fun teasing her today before they left about NOT doing that before the wedding. I'd say it was a fair estimation of the situation to say that they were whelmed. They opened gifts from 3:00 until about 4:50 without taking a break at all and neither took time to drink punch or eat. I, of course, on the ohter hand decided to have a little cheesecake and dropped it right in the middle of the floor right in front of everybody. Fortunately no one had a camera ready to take a photo of that mess but everyone got their laugh at my expense as usual. John did very well smiling and being cordial to all those ladies he didn't know. And two of my dearest friends in the whole wide world showed up from Searcy and surprised us. Beckie and Beth came over. It was so good to see them and get to visit. My other best friends in the whole world were throwing the shower. The day could not have been better. Beckie and Beth helped us bring all the stuff home from the church building since Tim was so smart and made arrangements to meet a patient at the office at 5:00 to recement a crown and was not available to help us. Katie Fulfer had her shower going on at the same time so we went to hers for a few minutes before Laura's started and then she came to ours a few minutes after hers was over. The very last gift that Laura picked up to open happened to be the gift that we had bought for Katie...don't know how that got mixed up but it was convient for her to be in the room with us so she got to open it with us there.

I retake my test on Thursday...Be praying for me to have a "ready recollection" of all that I've studied and "miraculaus memory" of everything else! On Saturday I leave for Philadelphia. Hope it's going to be as good of an experience as I am anticipating!

My Favorite TV Show

I just finished reading Mike Cope's blog and they are all having a discussion over what is the best TV show. His is The Office. I just don't get that...I hate that show! But I do love My Name is Earl. He is so funny! I love how he goes around trying to right all his wrongs and getting into even more trouble- maybe because he reminds me of myself sometimes...especially sticking my foot into my mouth or both feet at once...But now summer is here and reruns will start so I'll have to find a different show to watch if I don't want to watch reruns all summer. Guess that's one nice thing about having so many different networks...watch one in the winter and a differnt one in the summer and see different shows all the time. Like I have time to sit around and watch TV...

Stupid Bird!

We just got home from an art reception for the National Art Show that Memphis Germantown Art League Sponsored to find a BIRD flying around in our house! One thing I hate more than cats or dogs in my house is birds flying free! Tim just spent the last 15 minutes chasing it to get out of the house. Thank the Lord he doesn't mind dealing with stuff like that!

And yes, Brett, I did realize that the last post of Caden giggling was a video and I did figure out how to watch it. It was cute!

new to blogging

You can tell I'm still kind of new to this blogging...my last two posts before this one are almost identical...That's becuase I didn't think the first one ever got published so I wrote another one and when I publihsed it, both of them published...just bear with me, please.

Celebration Sunday

This has been a good day! We had a wonderful celebration and worship today. We are trying to raise money to pay off all our debt and add on to our church building. The goal is $3 million and as of today at noon, we had $2.2 million of it raised. I feel sure that the rest will come in. God is really blesssing us at Sycamore View! Then we had a great home gorup meeting tonight. It is such a blessing to be able to worship and pray and share your burdens with brothers and sisters in Christ! I don't know how people who don't have that Chritian community live without it!

Tim was in an art workshop all weekend with Alex Powers. Alex has written a book so I guess that makes him an expert...I'm not too fond of his painting...it's a little loose for my taste, but it's right down Tim's alley. Two differnt ladies asked Tim to autograph his drip rags and give it to them because they think he is such an excellent artist...His head is growing bigger by the minute! Tim did get a painting accepted into the Tennessee Water Color Association Show this month though, so that is a really big honor.

Everyone at church this morning was asking about Laura's wedding. When I tell them that it is going to be a small family wedding in out back yard and that Laura is wearing her jeans, they are all like, "That is so Laura!" All the other mothers who are planning weddings or have gone through weddings recently wish they had it as easy as me. However, all those other mothers are not going to be gone for the three weeks before the wedding doing an intership in Philadelphia like this one is...so I am extrememly grateful for simple and all Laura's other "moms" who are willing to pitch in! There were already gift for her out in the foyer this morning. The shower is next Sunday. So we'll get to see them again next weekend. HOORAY!

Celebration Sunday

We had our big kickoff this morning at Sycmore view for Project Fredom (a project designed to get us out of debt and build an addition to the building). Our goal was 3 million and the annount pledged as of this morning was almost 2.8 million, so we're not too far off goal. I pray that the Lord will bring that in soon! It was a good day a fun and fellowship for everyone.

Tim has been in an art Seminar all weekend with Alex Powers. He is supposed to be some famous artist from Myrtle Beach. He's published a book so I guess that makes him an expert. I, however, am not too impressed with his work...it's too loose for my taste! But it's right up Tim's alley.

Woodie Cooke and I were talking aobut Laura's wedding yesterday. Laura has decided that she is going to wear her jeans but at least she is going to buy new jeans and so is John and she is making herslef a new top to wear. We (Woodie and I) decided that thier theme song should be "I Did It My Way" - the Elvis version since it's going to be in Memphis. Laura and John thought that was pretty funny. Her shower is next Sunday afternoon.

Think I'll sign off now and try to catch a few z' before homegroup tonight.

Good Visit

Laura and John just left and we had a good visit. About the only decision we made on the wedding was the cake...She took several of my old dresses home with her thinking she might wear one of them or have one made to look like one of them. She especially likes the bridesmaid dress I wore in Stella Clegg and Jay Henley's wedding (they got married a week before Tim and me). The outfit she has pictured for John will either have to be bought at Berdorf's in New York or London or Paris or at Goodwill...Dillards's or Macy's won't carry it. And she wants real ivy to go around the patio railing...anyone have real ivy growing in their yard?

I tried to talk them into going to Europe on their honeymoon and letting me go with them...I figured they'd have more fun with me along to laugh at...just lilke you, do, Reagan, but they didn't buy that...somehow I think they'd rather be alone. Their time here was up just too soon and we didn't have enought time to sit around and chat. Does this mean that we've grown into the world of real adulthood and we'll never think we have enough time with our daughter and her husband (to be) again?

We're having more field stone and dirt delivered today...Hope we dont' have a repeat of last time when the truck turned over in the yard. Too bad we don't have time to get a pool in before the wedding. That would look really cool!

If you want a good laugh, go the Brett and April Emerson's blog - www.theemersonfamily.blogspot,com - and read the comment that I left under the entry for Caden's audio communication to everyone. I already got quite a rise out of one grandmother. We had lots of fun with it! Caden is getting so big and so cute!

We're having a beautiful day here. Hope you all are too!

Gettng stood up

Well, I'm sitting in the office fighting very hard to stay awake and get ready for my first client of the day but it's 4:20 and she hasn't shown yet, so I guess i'm getting stood up for the first time. And I don't like it very much especially since I spend about an hour prparing for what I was going to do with this kid to day! And Laura and John are supposed to be here sometime this afternoon and I have clients schedulded until 8:00. Maybe I need to be uisng this time to call and confirm the others so I don't sit up here and wait for no-shows all afternoon and evening. Wehn I went downwstaris about 2:00 to check on something the sky was black it was so stormy outside so mayve the weather is keeping peope in but it does seem like they would call. Guess I'm getting my initiation into the real world. And since theese people are from another church that we have a contract with and it isn't costing them anything, I guess I just proves my point that you value what you pay for.
Or maybe they thought they got just what they paid for last week - nothig! Who knows? I'll have to give them a call and find out what's going on here in a little bit. Forgive this whiney blog...I'll do my best to be more upbeat in the next one!

Great While It Lasted

Well, I just finished off the last of the caramel that my dear friend, Beckie, brought to me from Uragay (sp?) (some place in South America where she went to represent Harding at a Chritian college convention for schools that have foriegn campuses) and it was sooooo good! I thought of you every day, Rebecca Jane, when I put a spoon full in my coffee...now that it's gone, I'm almost sorry I shared it with others and didn't hoard it all to myself! Looks like you'll just have to go back and get me more and maybe this time I can go with you!

I took Tony Garcia to the airport yesterday morning at 5:30 to go to China to visit Ashley Kellum (I think is her name) and I'm taking Tim to the airport at noon today to go to Colorado to pick up his plane. I'm about ready to go to the airport and get on a plane myself...of course, I will be in a few weeks to go to Philadelphia and some wonderful man who graduated from Harding made arrangements for me to stay with his sister for most of the time that I will be there...So that worked out great!
This Harding Tapestry just keeps growing and growing!

Laura and John are coming for a couple of days next week and I'm excited about seeing them! But right now I've got to stop playing on this computer and get dressed for the day...this blogging stuff and reading blogs is addictive!

It's been fun

I've spent a part of the last three weekends in Searcy. First for Spring Sing, then for Associated Women for Harding Spring Meeting and National Council Meeting and then Tim and I went for University Builder's Club last weekend. We heard Zell Miller speak. He was wondeful and I would vote for him for Preseident if he ran (even though he is a Democrat). He is the only person living who has ever spoken at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions and I can certainly see why after listening to him at Harding. He really stands for what is good and moral and right and made that statement that he thinks that right now the party lines are hurting our country more than helping it becuase of pride and stubborness. I tend to agree with him...but then, since I live in a news black out most of the time, I can only take his word for it and he was pretty strong.

After the speech we ran into Lauren Crawford (from Sycamore View) and her boyfriend, David Flatt. Loren bought us a cup of coffee on her Declining Balance Card (you know it's one of those use it or lose it deals and she has way to much money to use before the end of the shcool year). We enjoyed the coffee, but we enjoyed the company more. We also got to visit with my nephew, Wil, and meet several of his friends. And I got to see and visit with Dr. and Mrs. Carr (JIm and Stephanie) all three weekends...that was a real treat as well as Dr. and Mrs. Ganus (Cliff and Louise). They have such special places in my heart!

On Friday we had meetings and came home Friday afternoon. Our friend, Beth, was wonderful, as always to give us a bed! Poor Beckie had to be in fort Walton Beach for the weekend for a Speech Convention. Tony had a bunch of his friends over to cook out on Friday night so Tim and I just sort of hid out in our bedroom and enjoyed having some time alone. Saturday night we had the praise team over for a cookout. That was fun, too. Life is just good! Now, if I can just make myself stop playing on this computer and go back to studying for my Boards once again...I'll be doing good, too.

Oh, one more thing...Leslie Gillespie called last night and said that they had a great weekend in Montgomery with April and Brett and Caden. It was missions weekend and they raised more money than their goal so they were all excited. God is good!
